Well Said

I found this quote today on one of my new favorite blogs. It's from Conan's last episode of The Tonight Show. I didn't watch the show (I had every intention of watching, but I fell asleep and forgot to DVR it) but this is worth sharing:

"Please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism. For the record, it's my least favorite quality. It doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get, but if you work really hard, and you're kind, amazing things will happen. I'm telling you, amazing things will happen."

Well said, Conan. Life doesn't always turn out the way we think it will, or the way we think it should, but if we just keep working hard and treating people well, I think we'll all be okay.

Getting to Know You!

I haven't posted much (or at all this week) because I haven't been feeling very good. Stupid sinuses. Lee's been taking very good care of me though :) I thought before I take a nap I'd play a little "Getting to Know You" from Keely's blog again this week!

1. Waffles, pancakes or french toast?
It's so hard to choose! I love them all! I guess french toast though
2. Dream home..What would it look like?
A big house with a wraparound porch, or at least a big front porch. Kind of out in the country. (Not too far in the country though, I have to be pretty close to Target!)
3. Favorite sport to watch during the Winter Olympics?
All the skiing...I wish I could ski!
4. The first word that comes to mind when describing yourself?
blessed
5. Dresses, pants (jeans, leggings, etc.) or skirts?
I'm a jeans girl...but I like dresses every once in a while too
6. What is your favorite time of day?
My drive home from work usually
7. Beach or Mountains..which do you prefer?
Beach! I always tell Lee the only way I would ever move away from Alabama again is if we move to the beach :) We have family at the beach too, which makes it that much better
8.Will you watch the Super Bowl?
Of course. I don't care that much about pro football, but I LOVE the commercials!

I'm going to take a nap now and I hope I wake up feeling better. It's such good weather for a nap here today!

Sunday Funday

I thought I'd play along with the Getting to Know You on Keely's blog today. This is my first time, and I thought it would be fun :) Yall should play too! For everybody that links up today she's donating 25 cents to the Red Cross! Such an easy way to help out!

1. Hair color..Au naturale..or not?
Au naturale...I've had highlights a couple of times, but right now it's natural. I'll probably get red highlights again sometime soon

2. If somebody has food in their teeth or lipstick on their teeth do you tell them?
It depends on who it is...if it's someone I know well I'd tell them, but if not I probably wouldn't. I really should, though...I mean, I don't think it would offend anybody. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. I would.

3. Would you rather have a million dollars or your vision of the perfect body?
I'm gonna have to go with the money...there's a lot you could do with a million dollars to GET that perfect body :)

4. Favorite magazine?
Probably Real Simple...I got a $5 subscription from Amazon a few weeks ago and I'm anxiously awaiting my first one :)

5. Bra style..lacey or plain?
Lately it's been plain...I'm trying to stay on some sort of a budget so I haven't spent much on that kind of stuff lately

6. If you walked into Victoria's Secret..would you most likely come out with something sexy or comfy?
Honestly...comfy right now

7. Do you fake and bake?
Not currently...but my gym membership includes tanning beds so I'll probably hit that up in the next few months. I realized the other day just how pale I've gotten and it made me a little bit sad

8. What's your favorite body part on a man?
Arms...is that weird? I like nice arms :)

That was fun! I think I'll play again next week :) Now everybody else go to Keely's blog and play too!

Remember the Rose Bowl, We'll Win Then...

Roll on to victory, hit your stride! You're Dixie's football pride, Crimson Tide!

It's been a long 17 years, but my Crimson Tide finally brought the national championship back home. We've been through a lot as Alabama fans in the past few years, so it was actually kind of surreal when we actually won the game. We had so many bad years I had started thinking that we would never win another one.

I just really hate that Colt McCoy got hurt. I've liked him since he was a freshman, and as bad as I wanted Alabama to beat him, I hate that he didn't even really get to play in the game. He's such a good quarterback, and now nobody will ever know how the game would have been if he played.

That being said, I did take exception to his statement that they "had" us when he got hurt. I don't think you can "have" another team on your first offensive drive of the game, especially when the team gives you the ball at their 30 yard line and you're forced to kick a field goal. (Yes Colt, you were in for the first three downs and were going to kick it whether you got hurt or not) And I could go on about all the "what ifs" for days so I won't get started on that here. Regardless, I have a lot of respect for Colt...I think he's really a stand-up guy and I hope he does really well in the pros.

I just love The University of Alabama so much. I know the players and coaches worked so hard to get where they are and I couldn't be more proud to be a Bama fan right now. I just wish I could've been there. At least we got to go to the SEC Championship game.

Oh, and go read this article by Andy Staples. It's about Alabama, but I think you'll appreciate it whether you're a Bama fan or not. I read it at work today and it made me cry. Right there at my desk. Just sayin'

So Far, So Good

I'm happy to report that I've worked out every day this year! All four days of it :) Lee is having to work late every day this week (except Thursday...we won't stand for that...we have football to watch) so I'm planning on working out while he's not here. And this year, instead of eating ice cream while I watch The Biggest Loser, I'm going to WORK OUT while I watch! A couple of years ago I actually did watch The Biggest Loser while I ran on the treadmill at the gym...it was kinda like, "If they can do it, so can I"...but then we got married and I got lazy. We got a really good deal on a stationary bike when we moved into the house, and I get sick of it sometimes, but it is nice to be able to work out while I watch TV. So tonight I rode the bike while I watched The Bachelor, and tomorrow I'll be riding while I watch The Biggest Loser :)

Another thing I've done is start using SparkPeople again. Right now I'm just tracking my exercise to make sure I'm reaching my goal every week, but you can track what you eat to make sure you stay in your calorie range every day, and all kinds of other stuff. They have tons of articles and tips to help keep you motivated an on track. AND it's all free!

So that's my quick update for tonight! How are yall doing?

Happy New Year!

Happy 2010! I hope everybody had a good New Year's Eve! Mine wasn't very exciting, but I'm okay with that. We went out to eat and then to Yogurt Mountain, then we just came home and hung out. I've just been exhausted lately so it was really nice to just relax.

I hate new year's resolutions because I feel like I never really keep them, but I do have a few this year. I guess I'll just call them something else :)

The first one is to lose weight...I know, what an original idea for a resolution, right? But seriously, one of my best friends is getting married in May and I have GOT to fit in my bridesmaid dress! I'm going to start eating better, but the main thing is that I want to start exercising again. I have a gym membership and I really enjoy going, so I'm going to have to start going again. I want to run a 5k at some point this year, so I'll start aiming for that. And I'm just not willing to not go to lunch with my awesome friends from work.

Amanda's weight loss story is really inspiring, and I think I'm going to start using some of the things she used, like caloriecount.com. I think that would be pretty helpful to find good recipes to cook for me and Lee. You should really go read her story. It's something I think anybody could do. Plus, if you don't already read her blog you really should. She's awesome.

My second "goal" (is that a good word?) for this year is to find a church and start reading my Bible more. I got a new Bible for Christmas, and I ordered a devotion book from Amazon the other day, so that should help. Now that we're settled back in Alabama we really want to find a church and a Sunday School (or Bible Fellowship or whatever they call them now) class. We found a church we liked a lot when we lived in Memphis but never did start going to Sunday School because we knew we probably weren't going to live there for very long. I know we'll be able to find one here, so now we just need to start visiting.

The third one is to actually save some money this year. I like listening to Dave Ramsey, and even though I may not agree with EVERYTHING he says (ie, we have a credit card and we use it for almost everything, but we always pay it off in a month or two), I do think it's good for us to have a budget and actually go by it. I found a blog not too long ago that I really like: Budgets Are Sexy. It's really fun to read, and he has links to all kinds of personal finance websites and links to a whole bunch of different budget spreadsheets. Lee and I are going to find one we like and really stick to it. I'm going to start using more coupons too, but I'll probably post more about that later.

The last one is to do a better job of keeping the house clean. If I just spend a few minutes every day it shouldn't be too hard. It's just the two of us to clean up after...people with kids and full-time jobs can keep their houses clean, so I should be able to do it too!

So there ya go...those are my plans for 2010. Nothing really original or unique, but are anybody's ever really? Maybe in a few months I'll do an update on how I'm doing with these. I hope everybody has a wonderful 2010!
